[A blurry splotch of white and red fills the screen, before the camera zooms out to show a Ponyta standing in an open field. It sniffs the air curiously before it faces the camera again, and trots over as a girl speaks in the background]

Hey, careful there-oof!

[The Ponyta's face fills the screen and the camera jerks around wildly, before focusing on a large, blue eye. It blinks as it zooms out again, finally revealing the owner of the pokegear: a young girl in her early teens, with an angular, heartshaped face and long, bright pink hair. The pokemon nuzzles against her, and she sighs as she strokes its nose with her free hand. Compared to a human, it appears quite small; about the size of a miniature horse. Once it settles down, the trainer turns her attention to the camera. Her brow furrows as she begins to speak]

Is anyone out there? I just got done with that professor guy, and – look. I don't know what you want us to do with these “battles”, but first of all, I don't have any time for that. I've got more important things to worry about right now than some silly game! And second...

[looks back at her Ponyta] Even if I was interested, these guys don't really look like fighting material to me. Maybe if they were bigger, or stronger, or....huh?

[Pauses, and blinks while Ponyta moves away – there's a rustling sound as it nudges the bag off-camera. She sighs, and the camera jerks a bit as she pulls it away from him]

...look, all I need is a way out of here. If any of you guys know something... well, I'm all ears.

[and off goes the transmission]

[And that's kiiiinda morbid. But, that's part of the whole vampire thing, right? Dark creatures of the night, sucking people's blood... like ghosts and werewolves and all that other spooky, monster movie stuff]

Gourmet blood, huh? I didn't know vampires were so picky. But, I hope you have other things to eat around here. I mean, gourmet virgin or not, I can't see anybody giving up their blood without a fight.

Really? Wow, no wonder everyone around here is so gung-ho about training. But, what are we supposed to do after we get all our badges? It doesn't seem like there's much to do around here besides train and... well, train some more.

Explore, find a job, kick back... There's still stuff you can do. Just requires some effort.

Alright, alright. I'm not going to stick around here anyways, so I'll see what I find on the road. Who knows, maybe the bigger cities will have something to do

[straightens up, and smiles]

[ She doesn't even know what part of what she's saying means. ]

Of course, I am capable of consuming human meals. Such is how I can afford to sustain with on the most prized of blood.

[...stops, and replays the message - what the heck did she just say? Shakes her head, and just focuses on the part she was able to make sense of]

Well, you'd better stick to normal food, then. You wouldn't want some big guy to come after you with a cross and some garlic, would you?

[trying to keep a straight face, and succeeding, mostly. Her voice sounds a little too amused to be completely serious, though]

[ Have a reassuring smile. ]

[ It sounds fancy, she must be using the words correctly. ]

Kukuku, I eat garlic for breakfast~

[ It's her favorite flavor, actually.. ]

Now that's cheating. Aren't all vampires supposed to hate garlic? It's right up there with crosses and sunlight and holy water - you know, all that vampire hunter stuff.

My powers have far exceeded that of a normal vampire. Though holy water has the ability to ward me off temporarily, the other things are merely sand piles on the road to my success!

Thanks, but I'm just repeating what someone else told me. If I was that smart, math class would've gone a lot smoother, trust me.

Isn't that what most of school is, anyways? Repeating what your teacher tells you.

And what exactly were you trying to succeed at? Pulling more lands into your dark abyss?

Yeah, sort of - though most of my teachers weren't nearly as interesting as some of the people around here. Then again, it's hard to compete with someone who has a giant dinosaur for a pet.

Don't worry, most of the useful stuff you learn are learned from experience, anyways. School's pretty useless in the grand scheme of things.

Wanting to stop them is a very noble goal. It's something the hero of a manga would yell out in the first chapter as they set off on a journey.

Er- [Looks embarrassed for a moment, but she quickly composes herself]

...but you do have a point - this place is kind of like a manga, isn't it? I mean, we're all trapped in the middle of nowhere, we have cute little animal friends, and we're all supposed to go on this big journey... it reminds me of something I read when I was a kid.

So, I guess all those tests were for nothing, huh? I wish I would've known that then - I could've worked on more important stuff. Or slept in more, at least.

[still joking around - though more sleep would've been nice.]

Huh, not bad, for a vampire. I thought you guys stuck to tormenting villagers and lurking around in castles. But, do you really think you can take on the entire world? It's a pretty big place, you know.

[Oh, that is dreadfully evil. Utena gives an exaggerated sigh and shakes her head]

Sorry, but I don't think I can let you do that. I mean, this place has enough problems without and evil vampire overlord, don't you think?

The normal fail safes of a manga don't seem to apply here though. [ There's an unsure look for a second. ] but there's some natural order? I think I would prefer if it was just a normal manga or old children's book. Those have happy endings.
