[The camera swerves and shakes, and glimpses of one of Violet City's inn rooms can be seen as it slows down]

There! Perfect!

[And soon it focuses in on a teenage girl, sitting crosslegged and barefoot on a bed, her back against the wall. She's dressed a lot like a cyclist - if cyclists wore red instead of pink, that is]

Alright, so. [Takes a deep breath] I've been slacking off a little - okay, no, I've been slacking off a lot since I came here. But, I think it's time to start doing more. To get out and actually see this place. And for that, I need to start training - both myself, and my pokemon.

But... there's one thing.

[She waves her hand, and the camera sweeps over to a Kakuna resting upright against the pillows. It zooms in and the Kakuna twitches... right before it flops over and falls on its side. Utena sighs and catches it before it can roll off the mattress, and sets to putting it back upright]

I have no idea what I'm going to do about her. I mean, these bug things are supposed to evolve pretty quickly, right? But it feels like she's been stuck in this cocoon for forever. I'm not going to take her to the gym with me, so maybe it doesn't matter, but...I don't know, I can't help but worry a little-

[And there's a light "paff" as the Kakuna falls over. Again.]

...anyway, if anyone has any advice, that would be great. For Kakuna over here, or the Violet City Gym.

[And she picks her up again, right before the camera cuts off.]

Oh my... I do suppose I've been here quite some time now... It should be a year in a few months...

*Patting Yamato on the head a bit more as he settles in buzzing quietly next to her slightly off camera.*

I'm afraid my badge count isn't all that impressive though... I just found myself in Pallet Town and have been trying to make my way back to Johto ever since. It's been a very long trip~

...wait, you mean that you started out in Pallet Town, right?

[Because nobody could get all the way from Johto to Kanto by mistake...right? Right]

Some creatures express with their whole bodies. And I've heard Pokemon can talk to each other. So have one of your others ask her?

[[ ooc: no worries! c: it happens ]]

And if you had any pokemon that weren't wild, then they can help them out and show them what to do. See? Teamwork.

[tilts her head]

But, what pokemon do you have now? I mean, you aren't out here on your own, are you?

[laughs]

You bet. Heck, she'll probably be in the top percentage of all Kakuna!

[face brightens]

Yeah, I could try tha-

[and then it falls]

...hmn, but then I'd have no way to talk to the other pokemon...

Oh, for my travels here, yes... I was in Goldenrod before I arrived in Pallet though...

*walking through dimensions during 4th wall is a hell of a thing.*

[wow, and she thought Kakuna was bad... She gives him a sympathetic look as she replies]

Yeah... it seems like these guys are pretty tough to train no matter what. But, is he just taking a long time to level up, or is he just flatout refusing to evolve?

Mmmm. Do you know a psychic Pokemon that could ask him?

Wait, you mean you've been here twice?

[Sounds pretty confused - she's heard of people leaving Johto and coming back, but this still doesn't make a whole lot of sense]

Well...Tamashii's still here. She was also my first Pokemon the first time I was here! And a really nice guy called Ryoji gave me an egg! [He holds it up so she can see. It's black, with a skull marking on it.]

Huh, so you got one of those, too? Well, congratulations - between that little guy and Tamashii, you'll have a pretty good team to help you ouut. Or at least, you will once it hatches. Did you ever get an egg like that during your first trip here?

Nope, sorry, I haven't come across any pokemon like that. At least, not yet. But... [hesitates] Well, this is going to sound weird, but have you heard of people who can talk to pokemon?

[ ! ]

Mm? Humans who can communicate with Pokemon...? I had wondered if it were possible, but had never heard of such before.

Well...not of this kind. But two of my Pokemon started as eggs!

I just heard of it, myself, but there's really people who can actually understand what pokemon say. I just met somebody who... well, we talked over the gears, but - anyway, I met somebody who can talk to them, and she said that she could talk to animals back where she came from, too. It sounded kind of nuts, but she was really able to help out my Kakuna.

Anyway, you might be able to meet others like that if you ask around the network. Or, if you don't want to go that far, you can probably ask someone when Metapod's supposed to evolve. Who knows, maybe he just needs a couple more levels.

[her response is late, and comes a couple hours later - now locked privately to Twilight Sparkle]

Hey, sorry about the holdup. And you were right - she was able to find out exactly what was wrong with her. But, ah... she also said something pretty strange. [fidgets] About you two, I mean.

They seem to understand human speech better than we understand their language. You may not be able to get much information, but at least asking as series of yes or no answers and getting nods or headshakes would be better than nothing?

So, I bet you know all about how to take care of them, then. And do you have any other pokemon now besides Tamashii and the egg?

[He shakes his head.] No, I don't...

[And finally, she cracks a smile]

Actually, that's not a bad idea - I guess we're all just so used to talking that we forget about other ways to show our feelings. I think I found someone who can get to the bottom of this, though, but... well, it's not like I'm going to stop helping my pokemon after this, right?

Oh no... I simply traveled right from Goldenrod to Pallet~

Of course! It's good to know how to communicate with them. No matter what you end up using them for.

Yeah, exactly.

[tilts her head] But what about you? I mean, how often do you check up on your pokemon like this?

[scratches her head] Are you near a town? If you are, it might be a good idea to catch another pokemon or two before you head to the next one. Not to replace your friends - just to give Tamashii some help until you can meet up with them again. It's not fair to let her do all the fighting, is it?
